Wanting to make a change, but not feeling ready?

It’s stressful to change your work situation when you don’t feel ready, or don’t know what to do or how you’re going to do it. And it can feel safer to keep working the same way rather than risk unravelling things.

When you’re feeling stuck in mid-career and want to change things, figuring it out on your own is hard. I can help you explore what changes you need to make, and how to make your desired change happen in a way that best suits you.

My practice is evidence-based and grounded in empathic, non-judgemental support.

Helping you find your purpose and do more of what matters to you

About Amanda Simmonds

Amanda specialises in helping mid-career professionals who want to improve their current work-life situation or explore a new career direction. Her integrative and personalised approach draws on evidence-based ways to improve compatibility with, and feelings of connection to, work that results in less work-life conflict, more energy, more meaning and more purpose. She has a unique talent for helping others see their own value and discover how they can make their best contributions.

My career has focused on helping people grow and build better lives and has spanned health practice, management and research, higher education, and international aid sectors. After three years living and working in Indonesia, I continued to build my knowledge and understanding of change making and personal growth through studies in positive psychology and coaching. This fundamentally shifted my motivation and priorities towards helping others design fulfilling work.

My qualifications:

  • Master of Applied Positive Psychology [The University of Melbourne]

  • Master of Asia Pacific Studies [Australian National University]

  • Bachelor of Arts, Psychology/BA (Hons) Sociology
    [Swinburne University of Technology]

  • Certificate in Nursing [RN; The Royal Melbourne Hospital]

Professional training includes:

  • Foundations of Coaching [MentorCoach]

  • Positive Neuroplasticity Professional Training [Rick Hanson, Ph.D.]

  • Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction [MBSR; Openground]

  • Mental Health First Aid [Mental Health First Aid Australia]

I am a member of the International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA) and operate within the Ethical Guidelines for Positive Psychology Practice.

Career & Life Design focuses on sustainable change rather than change that feels good in the moment but has no lasting impact.

This means understanding…

  • Your needs and any pressures you face

  • What is realistic for you now, and

  • What you can make happen in the future

As well as discovering…

  • New ways of seeing and thinking about your life

  • Your unique combination of skills and strengths

  • Creative and evidence-based ways to deal with obstacles

  • A renewed sense of possibility about who you can be and what you can do
